mussels from brussels

been toying with the idea of writing about the places ive been to these past few years... so im finally doin it... if i still remember these places... ok so maybe i can start with brussels (the place where i discovered GODIVA!), where i spent my 23rd bday last May...

so, my birthday was approaching, desperately needed a break from hatfield, after a few days of should i shouldnt i (as i usually do) i decided to book a trip to brussels on eurostar. thought it was a bargain as i paid less than gbp97.15/person for a return train ticket (kings cross - brussels) and 2 nigths at four points sheraton brussels. well i convinced myself (and everyone else) it was a bargain since it was my bday... i've been to brussels before with cosmos, but normally with these tours, you dont get to see much of the place as you're on the road most of the day....so to brussels we (me and sibs) went (again!)... my only aim to go to brussels was for the mussels... i once dined at a restaurant in paris called Leon de Bruxelles, which was along Champs-Elysées. for about 17euros, you'll get a pot of mussels and free flow of fries. went there twice! thats how much i liked it... from the name i sorta gathered that it originated from brussels...
we got into brussels train station, and decided to find our hotel on foot. after a few confusions and wrong turns, we found the hotel, it was prolly 30mins walk away from train station. soon as we checked in and freshened up, we headed off to the city centre. we wandered along the streets until we got to the grand'place (grote markt), nearby you'll find a market and the street lined with seafood restaurants. we wanted to locate chez leon for dinner the next day... we had two what-looked-like-cauldrons of mussels and frites (fries).... cant think of a better way to celebrate my 23rd...
when i recall brussels all i can think of is mussels and GODIVA!!! anything else has turned into a haze.... although i do recall walking along this maze of cafes, chocolatiers, boutiques and art/antique shops... my most fav find was godiva... realizing that it sells chocolate, i popped into the shop looking for a purchase (it was one of those shops i had to buy something from)... and so i picked dark chocolixir (4euros) from their (short) list of drinks... i had that first sip and i was hooked... i can only say GO TRY IT!!!  i later found out that there was a godiva along regent street, and i always try to get it there whenever im in london... which reminds me im due for another shot of chocolixir... i so need to get to london... for the sake of my sanity.. .
brussels is one of those places that i would suggest to visit at least once, if not for the architecture and art, then for the mussels and chocolate... will i visit brussels again? maybe when i've developed a keen interest in art and architecture... not just mussels and godiva...
and thats my weekend in brussels!

>> over and out!
